How to Care for Your BEDGEAR Performance® Pillow

Performance® Pillows aren't like the pillows you've had before. They're built with purpose-designed components; each one does a specific job. That also means care works a little differently. Nothing complicated — just a few steps worth doing in the right order.

Before You Wash Anything

The cover is the only part that goes in the machine. Before you do anything else, unzip the cover and remove both inserts: the Active Core and the Crown. Set them aside. They don't get washed the same way, and putting them through a machine cycle is a good way to shorten their lifespan.

Once the inserts are out, check the care label on the cover itself. Wash settings can vary slightly by fabric; the label is the authority. When in doubt, cold water and a gentle cycle is the right default.

Quick note on drying: Tumble dry on low heat works fine. For best results and to preserve the fabric's performance properties, hang drying is the better call whenever you have the time.

How to Reassemble Your Pillow

This is the part people occasionally get wrong. Each insert has a designated chamber, and orientation matters. Here's the order:

1
Place the Crown in the Top Chamber

The top chamber is identified by the style name appearing right side up. Insert the Crown here and make sure it's fully seated before moving on.

2
Place the Active Core in the Bottom Chamber

The bottom chamber is identified by the style name appearing upside down. Insert the Active Core here. Same deal — fully seated before you zip.

3
Zip the Cover Closed

Once both components are properly positioned, zip the cover closed. Your pillow is ready to go.

That's the whole process. If the pillow feels off after washing, the first thing to check is whether the inserts ended up in the right chambers. It's easy to flip them without realizing it.

A Few Things Worth Knowing

Performance® Pillows are built to last — but like any high-use product, how you care for them affects how long they perform at their best. A few habits that make a difference:

Wash the cover regularly. Every two to four weeks is a reasonable baseline; more frequently if you run hot or notice any odor. The performance fabrics work better clean. Letting the cover sit dirty for extended periods is the fastest way to dull what they're designed to do.

Don't rush the drying. A damp cover zipped back onto the inserts creates conditions you don't want. Make sure everything is fully dry before reassembly.

Store flat if the pillow isn't in use for an extended period. Compression over time affects loft; flat storage keeps the inserts in better shape.

Frequently Asked Questions

A few questions we hear most often about pillow care.

Can I Machine Wash My BEDGEAR Pillow?

Yes — but only the cover. Unzip the cover and remove both the Active Core and Crown inserts before washing. Machine wash the cover according to the care label instructions. Tumble dry on low heat; hang drying is preferred for best fabric performance. Do not machine wash the inserts themselves.

How Do I Reassemble My BEDGEAR Pillow After Washing?

After washing and drying the cover, reinsert the components in the correct order. The Crown goes into the top chamber — orient it so the style name reads right side up. The Active Core goes into the bottom chamber — orient it so the style name reads upside down. Once both are seated, zip the cover closed.

How Often Should I Wash My BEDGEAR Pillow Cover?

A general rule is every 2 to 4 weeks, or more frequently if you sleep hot, use the pillow during workouts, or notice any odor. Regular washing keeps the performance fabrics functioning as intended and extends the life of the pillow.
