Why a Travel Pillow Is Its Own Product
Your bed pillow solves one problem: filling the gap between your head and a flat mattress while you lie down. A travel pillow solves a different one. You are usually upright or half-reclined, your head wants to fall sideways, and there is nothing behind your neck to stop it.
That changes what the pillow has to do. Instead of loft, you need support at the sides of the neck and enough structure to hold your head near center. It also has to survive being crushed into a bag, and it has to be cleanable after it has been through an airport.
