Key Features of Our Pillow Shams

Here's why our shams are more than just decoration.

Matching Sets

Shams come with your duvet cover, so colors and patterns line up perfectly.

Breathable Fabric

Performance fabric helps reduce heat buildup around your pillows.

Moisture-Wicking

The fabric pulls moisture away to help keep things fresh.

Queen and King Sizes

Queen shams fit standard pillows; king pillow shams fit king pillows.

What Is a Pillow Sham?

A pillow sham is a decorative cover for a pillow. In bedding, a sham usually matches your duvet cover or comforter and often has a flange, or flat border, around the edge. It closes in the back, so the front looks clean.

Shams are mostly about style. They make the bed look finished and pulled together. Many people use them for display and sleep on a separate pillow in a pillowcase.

Pillow Sham vs. Pillowcase

They look similar, but they do different jobs on your bed.

Pillow Shams

A sham is a decorative cover with a back closure, made to match your duvet cover. Shams are the top layer of a styled bed and don't need washing as often.

Pillowcases

A pillowcase is what you sleep on every night. It opens at one end, usually comes with a sheet set and gets washed more often. Shop our Performance® pillowcases for cooling, warming and beauty options.

How to Style Pillow Shams

Start with your sleeping pillows in pillowcases at the back. Then layer your shams in front of them. For a queen bed, two queen shams usually look best; for a king, two king shams fill the width nicely.

Some people also add larger, square euro shams behind everything for extra height. Want shams that match the rest of your bed? Pair them with a duvet cover in the same pattern, and find the right pillow underneath in our pillows collection.

Complete Your Bed

Shams look best with a matching cover and the right pillow underneath. Browse the full BEDGEAR Home collection for more.

Pillow Sham FAQs

Quick answers to the questions we hear most.

What is a pillow sham?

A pillow sham is a decorative pillow cover that matches your duvet cover or comforter. It finishes the look of your bed and protects the pillow inside.

What's the difference between a pillow sham and a pillowcase?

A sham is decorative and closes in the back, while a pillowcase is open at one end and made for sleeping on every night. Most beds use both.

Can you sleep on a pillow sham?

You can, but most people use shams for display and sleep on a pillow in a pillowcase. Pillowcases are easier to wash often.

What size are your pillow shams?

Our queen shams measure 20 x 26 inches, which fits a standard pillow. Our king pillow shams measure 20 x 35 inches for king pillows.

How do I wash pillow shams?

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and tumble dry low. Skip fabric softener and ironing to protect the fabric's performance.
